Posted on Wed, 14 Jan 2015
Question: Last Sunday I noticed when I touched a section of my head or touched the hair it hurt. My head when I did not touch anything did not hurt. All week it has started to hurt more and more. I now have a sore throat and the head in this one spot is tender.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a local scalp problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and would like to reassure you that these symptoms do not suggest any serious brain disease.

The symptoms point to a local disease, involving the scalp. There are nerves located in the scalp, which can explain the pain, when hair is pulled. Presence of pain on pulling the hair also suggests that the pain is superficial and not arising due to any brain disease.

You would get relief from taking medications such as ibuprofen or diclofenac tablets. Symptoms should resolve in a few days.

Sorethroat may or may not be related to the pain. You can try warm saline gargles or betadine gargles before approaching the doctor.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
