What Causes Swollen Feet And Ankle When Diagnosed With Polymyalgia Rheumatica?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: I am a 61 year old female diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica about 6 months ago. I'm on prednisone, 20mg, once daily. While I am still having pain and extreme fatigue, my concern is the swelling I am having in my feet and ankles. It started about 3 weeks ago; even after sleeping they are still somewhat swollen. Is this something I need to be scared about????

Brief Answer:
Nothing worrisome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild swelling that persists in the morning can be due to the joint inflammation. This will gradually reduce with time as the inflammation decreases. Reducing the salt intake will help. Hot bath of Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate)-Magnesium has both anti-inflammatory and anti- arthritic properties and it can be absorbed through the skin- will also decrease the selling in few days.
I hope this answers your query.
