What Causes Swelling In The Legs When Diagnosed With Chronic Hashimoto's Disease?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, my name is xxxxx. Over the past 6+ months I've noticed that my lower legs and feet will swell, even when I'm hydrated, and they ache. My most recent blood test was in November 2016 - I was negative for diabetes, but I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and was placed on Naltrexone 2mg., and my vitamin levels came back normal (except the B12; it was too high, and I was advised to stop taking it until my levels were in the normal range - I haven't taken any B12 in two months.) Along with swelling in my lower legs and feet, I have dark circles under my eyes. Right now, everything from my hips down ache and throb, and my eyes feel bruised. Are these symptoms of the Hashimoto's? Or something else? Even my Mom mentioned how dark the circles were under my eyes. Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Brief Answer:
It can be due to hashimotos

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately. Based on the history you have shared, these all symptoms can fit with has hashimotos but side diagnosis and other causes need to be ruled out, so liver and renal functions, blood counts, urinalysis for protien leak, and Clotting profile for easy bruising, needs to be evaluated.

Fresh thyroid profile should also be done and thyroid medications should be started according. An echo cardiogram is also a must to look for any dilated cardio myopathy or issues with ejection fraction. You need to have a detailed endocrinologist review and preferably shouldn't be delayed. Meanwhile analgesics like acetaminophen can be used for the throbbing and aches.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
