What Causes Swelling And Pain At Night?

Question: arch in right foot grossly swollen and major pain especially overnight. What would cause that? The pain is almost a shooting pain when sleeping but very tender to touch.

Hx of 2 fx previously age 11 and 38. Have bunion on top of arch for lack of better words. Suffer from hyper extension of top of arch.of tendons

The gross swelling and pain that has increased overnight is likely to be due to an infection in the area like abscess. Get it examined and go for a tetanus shot and the antibiotics required to control the infection after consulting your primary physician. There may be a collection of pus inside that may need drainage.
1. Give enough rest to the affected foot.
2. Continue taking mild pain killers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
3. Hot compresses will be useful pain relieving measure.
