Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: I have MS. I'm concerned about my unintentional weight loss (about 15 lbs in last year)and loss of appetite. I'm on lots of meds: gilenya, ampyera, carbamazepine, Lipitor, bystolic, levo thyroxine, fosamax, triazolam, calcium. Could it be one of the meds? I do exercise with a trainer. Weight is ok now at 127, but I don't want to lose much more. I'm 60 yrs old. I don't think I have depression

Yes, medicine induced !!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting and your trust in HCM means a lot to me as a Physician.
I have completely reviewed your health query, and well realize all those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

With taking these medicines and losing only 15 ponds of weight per year and having now your body weight in quite normal limits seems not much bothersome clinically.

Your medication have impact on your appetite and digestioN e.g. Gilenya causes low appetite; Ampyra causes constipation, low appetite and indigestion.Sme are the digestive system effects of others too.

I suggest you not worry much and keep a healthy and balanced diet. Remain active physically as much as you can. I appreciate your gym activity under the instructions of an trainer. It will ensure that you don't lose much weight unnecessarily.

Hope I answered all of your queries. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you.
