What Causes Sudden Weight Gain With Abdominal Swelling, Dizziness And Difficulty In Breathing?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Jan 2016
Question: I gained 15 pounds in about 2 months without any reason. My stomach is big, swollen and hard. I feel tired and hungry all the time, and I cannot walk at a regular pace anymore, I get chest pressure and difficulty breathing, and get dizzy. My cardiologist says that everything looks O.K. My pulmonary doctor says the test came up normal. I got a thyroid test again, it is also normal as long as I keep taking .75 mg per day of synthroid . Also had a CT Scan of my stomach, it is normal, maybe some constipation. What is wrong with me?

Brief Answer:
Lose weight naturally,

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With normal work up weight gain is likely an attribute to sedentary lifestyle and inadequate activity. Also with use of thyroid medications, weight gain is inevitable in hypothyroidism.

You need to lose weight. A good start is modifying diet and lifestyle. Reducing caloric intake to less than 2000 calories in a day. Regular exercise of minimum of 45 minutes in a day , preferably jogging, running etc for at least 5 km a day. More fibrous diet, Atkin diet etc will help. High protein low carb diet (atkin ) is helpful. More important is calorie restriction, utilizing more calories via exercise than taking it will help lose weight. Sign up to an FDA approved weight loss program and have it a shot. No worries. All your work up is normal.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Thank you. Yes, I may need to be more careful about my diet. About exercise, I don't have a sedentary life, I do aerobics about 3 times a week and weight lifting about 3 times/week and walking/dancing in between. I have a very good muscle tone; but, every day is harder and harder because I keep putting on weight rapidly, and am tired all the time, and quite depressed, and my stomach gets quite distended in a matter of minutes and stays like that to the point that I look 8 months pregnant.

Brief Answer:
I can understand. losing weight is difficult

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

I can understand. With thyroid issue and age above 60 losing weight can be a challenge. Keeping caloric restriction and increasing exercise time will help. Bloating and distension are bowel symptoms and can be treated symptomatically with GI prokinetics ( motility increasing meds).

I hope it helps.
