What Causes Sudden Lack Of Appetite And Vomiting?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Nov 2016
Question: Okay, this has been going on for two days thus far.

I am feeling very, very full in my stomach, just below my breast. I can eat, but do not feel hungry per se. I feel no nausea, but suddenly will nearly vomit. I am not constipated. I am very much not pregnant, if that would be a question.

Brief Answer:
Possible mild gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

It seems like a mild gastritis.
It is important to avoid spicy and greasy foods, eat often but small amounts, drink plenty of fluids.

Take Omeprazole 20mg or Esomeprazole 40mg or Lansoprazole 15 mg...once/day, 20 min before breakfast, for 2 weeks.
If helpful, continue the treatment for 8 weeks.
If not better you should consider doing a fibrogastroscopy which will understand if the problem you are having is just gastritis or it is more severe (peptic ulcer).

Hope this is helpful.

That really makes a lot of sense.

Huh... I have been diagnosed with gastritis a few years ago and it cleared up. However, then I had pain slightly lower and somewhat to my left, closer to where the ribs begin. At that time I really couldn't eat anything without sudden onset of severe pain and eventually experienced severe weakness before I was treated.

So, it makes sense that I would have gastritis, again. (Depressing as that is.) I am just surprised as to the slight change in symptom expression. That being said, it's really great that that is the treatment as it will be easy for me to obtain some form of H2 Inhibitor as I had that medication already in my dossier.

PS: Thank you so much. I tried to just look it up online, vomiting without warning because there was no nausea. People on the internet immediately assumed bulimia for the people who asked the question originally, which doesn't help at all. I like my food, but I don't binge, have insecurities about my body or want to vomit.

Okay, another question. Do you know if milk products are in general bad for gastritis or no issue?

Brief Answer:
Proton pump inhibitors are much better

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up question.

PPI (proton pump inhibitors) are much better nowdays and you can take them for shorter time.
And yes, symptom vary, but it is typical for gastritis as you describe it.

Not possible to be bulimia, because vomiting there is a result of eating too much and of provoking vomiting yourself. Vomiting can come from other causes as well.

No, milk products are ok to use (unless you are lactose intolerant).

Kind regards,
Dr.Papaqako
