Question: I had a fall 25 days ago on to a rug. Elbow OK now and knee much better But rib cage/spine very sore. Extensive Xrays show no breaks/cracks. Is this extended period of pain to be expected.

Brief Answer:
Pain will be ok within 7 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

If I am your treating doctor, I would advise you to have rest for about 7 days and no weightlifting for about a month, as it takes this much time to get everything alright.

Your pain may be that you haven't taken rest initially.

So I advise you to have tab.aceclofenac100mg+serratiopeptidase15mg thrice a day for 7 days by prescription of your family doctor, as this not over the counter.

Apply hot packs.

I hope it helps.

Thanks,

Is that drug a nerve drug like Lyrica?
I did not do any lifting; I am 76 with arthritic shoulders!
I have purchased a MRI for next Monday.

Brief Answer:
I advised painkiller and anti-inflammatory.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

No, I advised you the drug which is painkiller and anti-inflammatory.

Lyrica is pregabalin salt, and is used to treat pain caused by nerve damage and not in trauma etc.

It's to be taken under supervision of your family doctor and it's not over the counter.

This drug is prescribed at night time mostly.

But at your age, I don't advise it, similar to my patients.

If your family doctor advises then only you can take lyrica under his supervision as it has side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty concentrating, swollen arms/legs, and weight gain.

Also, please send me the MRI report when it comes.

I hope you got the answer.

Thanks,

Is there anything to cause real concern?
Is the T7 consistent with my very sore back?
Action to be taken? Massage therapy?
Prognosis?
Anything else?

Brief Answer:
Spinal brace is required.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks again,

I have read your MRI, although it says 'A mild wedge compression fracture of T7 is present. The vertebral body is reduced in height by 20% anteriorly'.

I want to clear you the point that, if the loss of vertebral height falls in the 10-30% range, the treatment is conservative. This includes bed rest with hyperextension of the affected spinal level for a week to 10 days followed by bracing for 3 to 8 weeks.

During bracing, if progress is good after 3 weeks, the patient may be allowed to walk and begin physical therapy.

I usually advise my patients to have spinal brace.

Now its more important that you have a visit for orthopaedic surgeon.

No massage therapy, only medication as advised above.

Prognosis is very good.

For moderate central spinal stenosis at L3-4 mentioned in your MRI if you can walk one mile daily, and if you don't have leg pain i.e radiating, sciatic-like, or cramping, then you need not to be worried at this time.

I hope you got the point.

Thanks,
