Question: me and my gf were having sex when the condom slipped off. we got freaked out and she took 2 emergency contraception pills within 12 hours. We had sex a week after she got her period. and a week later we had sex, she experienced bleeding.. and from 2 days after that she has been having symptoms like sore breasts, loss of appetite, fatigue, mood swings, had fever for a day in between (when she took paracetamol) and cramps in stomach. Could she pregnant? We both are very very scared. about 5 days after the first bleeding she again bled for a day. she took a pregnancy test a week after she bled for the first time i.e. after 2 weeks we had sex, and it came negative... but we are still not sure... pls help... this is the worst phase of our lives... we repent so much

Brief Answer:
Not to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.Unprotected intercourse can lead to pregnancy. However, emergency contraception (levonorgestrel) is 98% effective in preventing pregnancy, if taken within 24 hours of unprotected intercourse. Bleeding after its consumption indicates it was efficacious in preventing pregnancy.
Levonorgestrel has the side effect of irregular spotting and bleeding for few weeks after its consumption. Moreover, the urine pregnancy test is negative. So, I suggest her to not to worry. However, you should further have protected intercourse till she gets her next periods.
Loss of appetite, fatigue, mood swings, fever for a day in between can be due to some medical illness like viral fever.
Sore breasts are likely due to hormonal effect of levonorgestrel.

Thanks so much for answering mam.

1) I've read somewhere that the bleeding could be implantation bleeding. It happened about 2 weeks after her period (around the time of ovulation?).

2) she also says that the side effects of the ipill stay for a day or two.. But she has been experiencing these for more than 3 days...could this be because she took 2 ipills? Also the breast tenderness and she says she feels them to be a bit bigger is our biggest point of worry...

We are scared to our core... What r our options mam... Her period are due next week...

Detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, since you had intercourse a week after the periods, which is almost one week before the expected ovulation, the chances of pregnancy are very low.
1. Implantation bleeding occurs 5-6 days after conception, and conception can occur only after ovulation, If her periods are regular, then ovulation would have occured around 21-22 nd July, and implantation bleeding, if the conception would have occured around 26-27th July, which is not the situation in your case.
2.I pill leads to bleeding within 5-7 days for approximately 3-5 days. It also causes irregular spotting for next few weeks in some cases. It also has the side effect of delaying the next expected period by 2-3 weeks.
Breast tenderness and engorgement are the side effect of levonorgestrel, which is a progesterone. Also, since she is now in premenstrual phase of her menstrual cycle, which has common symptom of breast fullness and engorgement.
I would still suggest her not to worry.
She can wait for her periods, if delayed then she can get a urine pregnancy test to confirm the diagnosis.
