What Causes Slimy Sensation On The Palate Of The Mouth?

Question: I have a slimy feeling on the roof of my mouth and a couple
Days ago lots of syliva ! It seemed to get less slimy and less Water when I started to take Pepto! I don't think it is thrush no white spots anywhere .. Thoughts

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a slimy feeling over the roof of mouth along with execs saliva production that is improved with Pepto and Prevecid (Lansoprazole) can be due to Acid reflux or silent reflux..

In acid reflux there are along other symptoms associated like heartburn or chest pressure, sore throat and at times bitter and sore tasting liquid in mouth..

In silent reflux there is also reflux of acid but the other symptoms are not evident, that is why it is silent reflux..

There can also be a few other causes and I would like to get a little more information for guiding you better..

1. As I explained above, do you have any symptoms of acid reflux or silent reflux?
2.Do you have any Oral or dental infection?
3.Do you experience post nasal drip?
4. Do you have any sinus related problems like Nasal congestion along with headache and facial pain etc?

Post nasal drip and cough in the morning at times sore throatn! at times esp at night qurgling in the back of my throat and thats when my mouth really fills with liquid! I feel as if there is cobb webs in my moutjh but taken rolaids or pepto helps but doesnt completely clear it! Its my 2 day with the prevacid
Can silent reflux just start ? Never had any problems .. No dental or sinu problems s

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms are pointing towards Silent Reflux..
The symptoms of sore throat and gurgling at night with filling up of mouth with liquid are pointing towards Silent Reflux..
But you still need to get it confirmed and for it you need to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated..
A thorough clinical evaluation and Upper G. I Endoscopy can be helpful in diagnosis..

As of now continue to take Prevecid and Pepto Bismol daily..
Avoid spicy and acidic foods..
Take small meals every 2 hours..
Finish your dinner atleast 2 hours before sleeping..
Take short walk after meals..
Sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet to reduce Reflux..
Left lateral position should be preferred for sleeping..
Drink plenty of water..
Take a short walk after meals..

Does silent reflux also cause the tongue to sort of tingle?

As per your query, in case if the acid comes to mouth then it can cause chemical injury to the mucosa of the tongue and other parts of mouth and can lead to inflammation and tingling sensation..

There can be another cause of tingling and that is Vitamin B12 or Iron deficiency..
You can therefore take Multivitamin supplements daily along with treatment of acid reflux..
