What Causes Sleeplessness In Children While Suffering From Cold?
Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter(7 months old) is suffering from sever cold, she wakes up from sleep in the nights and pressing ear so hard and crying. Is the ear ache because of cold she is having??.
How do we differentiate ear ache because of cold and ear infection....., what is the first aid we can do to control her ear ache.

Could be otitis media
Detailed Answer:
Hi....this could be an otitis media or middle ear infection. As of now for emergency sake your can give her any over the counter antiallergics which you have in hand.
Otherwise if you can get back to me with her current weight or recently checked weight, I will suggest you the dose of Triclofos which will make her sleep comfortably and tomorrow you can meet your pediatrician for otoscopy and antibiotics prescription.
The other possibility is an eustachian catarrh or blockade of eustachian tube due to cough and cold. For this I suggest you put nasivion-s saline nasal drops as frequently as possible or required atleast 6th hourly, 1 drop in each nostril.
If she has got fever, you can give paracetamol.
Kindly get back to me with her current weight.
DO NOT PUT ANY EAR DROPS
