What Causes Skin Irritation On Scrotum?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Jul 2014
Question: My scrotum is irritated on one side. It doesn't itch. It feels raw. The degree of irritation varies throughout the day. My scrotum isn't red, no bumps, lesions, and no visible rashe. No burning while urinating and no discharge from my penis. I've been experiencing this discomfort for nearly 3 weeks. My urologist has prescribed Cipro which doesn't seem to be helping with the discomfort. Do these sound like a symptoms of an STD or just a skin irritation from possible a hot sweaty crotch?

Brief Answer:
Intertrigo

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it

It seems most likely to be a case of Intertrigo, which is inflammation of the body folds, due to constant rubbing of the folds against each other. Sweating and humidity makes the folds moist and macerted and thus prone to intertrigo.

If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to use an antifungal dusting powder frequently in the folds, which would keep the skin dry and thereby prevent it from developing irritation due to constant rubbing.
