Brief Answer:
Most commonly a muscle strain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.

The commonest cause of pain in this location is a pull or sprain of the muscles in your chest wall. You may have some localized tenderness in that area. This should be your only symptom if this is the diagnosis, and the pain will likely respond to a simple antiinflammatory medication.

If you have with this pain other symptoms such as shortness of breath, palpitations or pain radiating into your neck or left harm then you should consult a doctor as pain from the heart or lungs can be felt in the chest wall also.

I hope this answers you question.

Best wishes

hi,

thanks for you follow up question,

yes these should definitely help with the pain. you could add Tylenol if need be and if this is not controlling your pain then an opiate such as Codiene (in Tylenol 3's) may benefit you.
