Brief Answer:
maybe due to neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the sharp pain may be due to neuralgia.

Neuralgia is nerve related pain. It can be sharp in nature.

In other persons may be burning or stinging or tingling etc.

It is due to abnormal function of the nerves that are responsible for the area.
This can be temporary or permanent.

Some causes include: (a) vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(b)diabetes
(c)trauma to these nerves eg if there is arthritis or any changes in the back where the nerves originate
(d)liver or kidney disease
(e)side effect of medication
(f)exposure to toxins
(g)infections such as shingles
(h) idiopathic- cause is not known

If you wish to determine the exact cause, this would require blood tests and xrays of the spine.

You can replacing vitamin b12 and folate to see if this helps , this occur in short periods of time or can weeks to months in some cases.

There are medications that can help with neuralgia if it is very bothersome. Would require prescription from your doctor eg lyrica, gabapentin, amitriptyline, tegretol, nortriptyline

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
