What causes severe tailbone pain and red, purple discolouration on the buttock?

Question: Unexplained pain in tailbone . Red and purple butt crack no lump

Brief Answer:
pilonidal cyst?

Detailed Answer:

if you haven't had any injury (a fall or anything else) then an inflammed pilonidal cyst is likely. Sometimes pilonidal cysts are evident but they could remain 'hidden', that is without visible signs of their existence. Local warmth, redness and pain are the signs of inflammation. Clinical examination by a general surgeon is enough to diagnose it.

Only surgical treatment may provide permanent results. Antibiotics won't help without complete drainage.

Pain came suddenly without injury or fall . I woke up like this one day and it has lasted 8 days now . I did notice the 3rd day was the most painful and then from day 4th til now pain has stayed the same . There is no lump (characteristic of polonidal cyst) I decided to check today and my butt line is red and purple . Pain is right above butt hole . It hurts to the touch or when I sit or try to get up or certain moves .. It doesn't hurt when I am standing up or walking . Could it be something else beside polonidal cyst? Maybe a pulled nerve ? Or broken tailbone somehow ?

Brief Answer:
sounds like inflammation

Detailed Answer:
The discoloration is probably due to inflammation which could be a pilonidal cyst or similar conditions (abscesses) of the area, although the latter are usually more common among patients with chronic conditions like inflammatory bowel diseases.

Pilonidal cyst might be almost hidden without a lump sometimes.

Besides the above sometimes patients without injury may experience idiopathic (meaning of unknown cause) pain which usually resolves on its own a few weeks later.

There's next step would be to visit your doctor for clinical examination. Your doctor should be able to identify the aforementioned conditions.

Kind regards!
