What Causes Severe Pain Due To Potts Spine

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Dec 2014
Question: I have my mothers MRI reports which were taken 3 months apart one in august and the other yesterday. She has been suffering from Potts spine. She was in excruciating pain in the month of August this year currently she is good no pain wears a belt to move with a walker but the MRI reports of yesterday suggests the infection has now moved to L5 earlier it was with L3 and L4.
Should we keep the medication going which are mostly anti bacterial or should we go for a second opinion changing the doctor ? I am confused and need to know what is going on.

Thanks in Advance help appreciated.

Brief Answer:
M.R.I is not determinal in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

First thing I want to clear you is that M.R.I cannot differenciate between healing and infectious tissue.

Your doctor has already advised you antitubercular drugs.

If symptoms like weaknesses, night seats, evening fever still exists then you need to get E.S.R and Hb done and send me the report.

Have balanced diet including seasonal fruits and vegetables.

So all you need is regular follow up with your family doctor.

He may change your medication by doing your physical examination because usually after 3 months these medications needs to be changed.

I hope you have got your answer.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.

Brief Answer:
Stick to your antitubercular treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the response.

From your reports, I would like to advise you to consult orthopedic surgeon who will do your physical examination because I am still conscious for your antitubercular treatment.

So you must have follow up with your doctor.

You must stick to your antitubercular treatment which is prescribed by your doctor.

Usually it takes about 18-24 month to get fully recovered from pott's spine.

Have balanced diet including protein and fresh fruits.

I hope it helps.

Thanks.

Dr.Singh.
