What causes severe heartburn?

Presence of severe heartburn is possibly due to Gastro-oesophageal reflux.
If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern
1. No distension of abdomen
2. No blood in stools
3. No persistent vomiting
I would suggest you the following which will definitely be helpful
1. Continue Mylanta
2. Proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprozole and Prokinetic like Domperidone will be helpful in relieving symptoms
3. Soft diet
4. Probiotics
5. Consider addition of yoghurt or curd in your diet
6. Avoid Caffeinated/alcoholic/carbonated beverages: They will increase the reflux
