What Causes Severe Cough After Exercise?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: my son (16 y/o) had pneumonia 2 years ago, and required hospitalizing. For the last week he was had a severe cough with no fever that is just subsiding. He'll once or twice per hour still.

My question is: He has a track meet today and wants to run the 1 and two mile. Should I let him? If so, could it make his cough worse into pneumonia.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Cough may get precipitated by exertion

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

In most of the individuals cough has a tendency to get worsened after exertion(due to exposure to air or due to dehydration).
The chances of getting pneumonia again is less as pneumonia occurs due to some infection, not exertion.
So I suggest you to avoid the exertion if it's possible.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
