What Causes Severe Bleeding With Clots In A Person With PCOS?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I have PCOS and just got MRI results back that I have a 10mm thick endometrial wall. So I obviously have hyperplasia. I am a 33 year old female. Haven't been on birth control in 13 years. Have been bleeding nonstop for 5 months with huge clots. I feel like my primary doctor never gives me a straight answer and I really need them.

What is the likelihood of endometrial cancer and what are my chances of ever becoming pregnant? I've gained a lot of weight in the last 2 years. Is there any remarkable difference if I undergo bariatric surgery?

Please give things to me straight as I have already prepared for cancer, infertility, etc. as I have been given a number of pseudo diagnoses. I just want a real answer. Please no sugar coating. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy required

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I read your history and following are my advice based on information you have provided:

1) There is no possibility of endometrial cancer as you have endometrial thickness of 10mm which is fairly normal especially in women with PCO.

2) Non stop bleeding could also be due to intrauterine pathology like fibroid or polyp in the uterus which are better seen by getting a hysteroscopy done. Along with hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy can be performed which will clear your doubts about cancer of endometrium.

3) If you are obese, weight loss will definitely help you in getting pregnant. Obesity is one of the main reasons for infertility.

4) I have put everything staright without sugar coating. Get hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy done. If normal. get bariatric surgery for weight loss if you are obese.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya
