What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain During Menstruation?

Question: Hi Doctor i wanted to know what exactly does the report speak as i had visited a Gynecologist a mnth back and she had advised me to take some tablets as the report showed a high CA -125 level.Now after a month i have again got a test done as advised by the doc which report i have attached.
Please suggest doc as my sister used to have alot of pain during her menses

Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
THe problem here is called endometriosis.
During a normal period ( menstrual cycle ) , blood flows out of the uterus through the vagina.
In this disease, the menstrual blood travels in opposite direction and enters the pelvis, leading to deposits of endometrial tissue in the pelvis.
The cyst in your ovary is due to endometriosis.
This explains the pain during your period, that you are having.
Endometriosis also leads to elevated CA - 125 levels.
The treatment mainly consists of hormonal treatment for 3 months - oral contraceptive pills, progesterone pills, Danazol etc.
If this fails, then surgical removal is the next step for this condition.
