Does Danazol,myomectomy Prevent Pregnancy?

Hello, I am 37 years old in okay health. I have a 6.2cm fibroid and several small ones with the largest being 1.9cm. I also have RH- blood. At my last appointment about the fibroids, I said I didn t want kids, so the gyno suggested danazol, myomectomy or hysterectomy. I asked for a few weeks to research and decide. My other half and I have decided to have a baby. Is it likely that we won t be able to conceive or carry to term?

Hi,

You have several things to be considered here.
Multiple fibroids can affect pregnancy and may cause difficulty in conceiving, carrying on pregnancy till term and also, delivery can be an issue if the fibroids are in lower part of uterus ,when you may have to go for a caesarean delivery.

Danazol is not advisable if you are planning a pregnancy. It also has a lot of side effects and is not used .

Myomectomy can remove most of the fibroids and can improve the chances of getting pregnant ,but, with every myomectomy there is a very small chance that there can be excess bleeding during surgery and they may have to completely remove the uterus ,in which case ,u will not be able to carry any children.

You have to check your other factors of fertility before deciding, also at 37 your ovarian reserve could be decreasing,so an early pregnancy is advisable.
For ,Rh negetive blood group, if you ever require blood transfusion be sure is Rh negetive . And also you will require special injections during pregnancy .

Regards.
