Question: Hi ,
I am 29 yrs old and since last 4-5 weeks, i have seen few strands of white/grey hair in my beard and moustache area. They were all black before 2 months. Also, there are couple of small ehite patches that have come up on skin of my back.
I was diagnosed with low vitamin d 3 months back(had fatigue etc) but those symptoms went away in 3 weeks after taking vitamin d supplements. Also, i had alopecia areate 1.5 year bakc which is also fine since last last 8-9 months. My job is quite stressful but i do regular exercises like running, gym on daily basis. What could be the reason for hair greying ?

Brief Answer:
Grey hairs are caused by various reasons.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Ji, Hi
Good evening!

I appreciate your concern for the premature (early) grey hairs.

The reasons are many which include faulty diet, stress, hormonal imbalances involving thyroid, malnutrition, anemia, nutritional deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, using electric dryers as well as genetic disorders or drugs intake.
Mental stress produces extraordinary tension in the skin of the scalp, which interferes with the supply of nutrition necessary for good hair health.

As such there is no specific remedy for the premature grey hairs, the only thing is the life style modification which may include:

1. Smoking, alcohol & stress should be avoided
2. Intake of regular healthy balanced diet
3. Proper hair and scalp hygiene
4. Eating fruits and vegetables and taking Green tea
5. Nutritional supplements in the form of Adgain capsules which contain multivitamins and essential trace elements & Brewer's yeast which are found to be safe and effective for normal hair growth.
6. Last but not the least, you can apply "henna"(mehndi) on the affected area of the scalp or "ammonia free" hair XXXXXXX

Hope to have answered your query.
However I shall be glad to answer if you have a follow up query.

Best regards.

Could it be not related to automimmune disorder? (since i had alopecia areata) or a particular vitamin deficiency? . Also, head hair are all black, greying is there only in the beard area. I also mentioned 1-2 small white spots on skin of back. Are these 2 related ?

Brief Answer:
These are not inter related.

Detailed Answer:

Dear XXXXXXX Ji, Hi
Thanks for your query.

As mentioned earlier the premature grey hairs are not related to autoimmune disorder, yes it may occur due to nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin or minerals.
In Alopecia areata the antibodies attack the rapidly growing cells in the hair follicles. The affected hair follicles become small and drastically slow down hair production. This can lead to hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere and there is a possibility that the hairs will resume their normal growth.
