Question: Dear sir, my baby boy is 40 days old now but after his birth he was hospitalised for three times because of jaundice and was given phototherapy, but whenever we use to bring him home after discharge he use to get jaundice again and we had to admit him again for phototherapy and finally we changed the doctor and the new doctor just told us to stop mothers milk and start formula and we did this and hopefully jaundice was gone and my baby was ok. after that whenever baby use to do short toilet he use to cry and,so we again took him to our doctor and he priscribed for urine for culture & sensitivity test and the test showed growth of escherichia coli after 24 hrs of incubation.viable bacteria count 5000cfu/ml of urine.and had been diagonised with uti .
sir our doctor recommended with one amikacin 60mg iv od injections for ten days sir but we did not felt this small 40 days infant child could tollerate injection and my baby is also very healthy, feeds both formula and mothers milk nicely , his weight is 4kg400grams so we thought that he can take the medicine orally and we requested our doctor to give him medicine and finally today he gave only one medicine taxim-o syrup 3ml 2 times a day. my question is that he was priscribed for injections before but now only one medicine he has given . sir please help me what should i do.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
I can understand your concern.

I think you must have done urine culture and sensitivity report.
So you can use the antibiotics according to report after consulting a doctor.
If the infection does not respond to oral medicine then go for injectable antibiotics as advised by treating doctor.

Jaundice issue has reduced now, do not worry about that.
Hope i helped you.
