default
Posted on Fri, 16 Sep 2016
Question: I have been fighting a cold for a about week now. The conjestion has gotten a but better but the cough has stayed but not nearly as bad as it was.

They orher day after smoking marajuana i started coughing really hard. My troat was very dry and i coughed up some blood in my mucus. I coughed up a biy yesterday as well but it was very little in my mucus.

Is the blood from coughing too much? I went to a walk in clinic and the doctor gave me some antibiotics cause he feels it might be brochchitis. I had no fever and mu lungs sound clear he said.

Should i be worried that it could be something worse. Like lung cancer. Im 32 i dont smoke cigs just pot for about a year. This has never happened to me and im concerned.

Brief Answer:
simple bronchitis.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having cough with blood tinged phlegm.

As per your clinical details, it appears to be simple bronchitis (common in smokers) (pot also causes bronchitis).

Lung cancer is common in individuals with active smoking history of 5-15 years and also uncommon in your age.

I would recommend you to continue same antibiotic (local doctor's prescription) with cough suppressants (Dextromethorphan) with steam inhalation twice daily to clear thick secretions of throat.

Do not worry, it is a simple bronchitis. Blood is common in severe bouts of cough.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
