What Causes Painful Lump In Abdomen?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: Hello Doctor.
(Please see my history for more info)
This morning I discovered a new 'lump' on my abdomen. It is about fist sized and just appeared today. Its on the left 'lower' side of my belly. On touch it is tender but feels soft. Could this be yet another hernia? I already have a umbilical and inguinal hernia. The umbilical one varies in size depending on how full of fluid my abdomen is. The inguinal one is large and I've been told by my doctor that a large amount of my intestines is 'permanently' in there. If it's not a new hernia what could this new lump be? I haven't tried pushing it back in as it's tender so I don't know if I can. I will attach a picture. You can see my slightly distended abdomen, my umbilical hernia, the inguinal hernia and the new lump. Should I see my doctor about it or can it wait?
Awaiting a answer. Thank you.
I forgot to add and it might be important. I am experiencing increased frequent painful stomach and intestinal cramps today. At times so painful I'm in tears. The intestinal cramps are not localized to the parts of my intestines that are in my inguinal hernia which is were the cramping usually is worst. The cramps are not relived by farting or having poop. I do have a lot of gas today and fart very frequently. Also every time I fart I poop in my diapers. Small amounts of poop but they are in addition to so far 5 regular poops. Not sure that's important or related but thought I add this information.

Brief Answer:
Hernia possible incarcerated

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with you healthcare concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having pain and a new lump in your abdomen. You mention that this lump seems to have intestines inside the lump and is tender. from your description it sounds like you have another hernia and that hernia has intestines inside. With you having bowel changes and pain I am deeply concerned that you may have an incarcerated hernia. That means the hernia and the intestines inside are strangulating. This is a serious condition and requires immediate attention. I recommend that you seek medical attention immediately.

Thank you for the very timely answer.
To clarify. I have no idea if there are intestines in this new hernia. It isn't really painful just a bit tender upon touching it. But I do know that a large amount of my intestines is in the inguinal one. I usually have cramps localized there before and during having a poop. What is not usual are the allover my abdomen and stomach cramps. And this excessive gas accompanied by frequent 'wet' farting isn't the usual either.
Do you think the problem lies with the new hernia that appeared today? Or possibly with the inguinal one?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
pain possibly from both

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for responding so quickly to my answer.

I still feel that the new lump and the inguinal hernia are the cause of your recent increased pain and changes in bowel movements. The lump and the hernia need to be addressed and possibly with surgery. Having intestines in any hernia is a disaster waiting to happen. I still recommend that you seek medical attention
