What Causes Painful Gums?
Question: fOR THE LAST WEEK I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FROM EXCRUTIATING PAIN IN MY GUM AREA, TOWARD THE BACK. iT'S FEELS LIKE AN OPEN NERVE AND WHEN I EAT AND SOMETIMES WHEN I TALK, THE PAIN GOES RIGHT TO MY BRAIN LIKE AN ELECTRIC SHOT. BACK LAST SUMMER IT HAPPENED A FEW TIMES AND I WENT TO THE DENTIST WHO HAD EXTRACTED MY TEETH (I WEAR DENTURESI). HE SAID OH, IT'S A FORM OF SHINGLES, NOTHING YOU CAN DO. WELL, IT WENT AWAY FOR A WHILE AND STARTED UP VIGOROUSLY A WEEK AGO. IT IS UNBEARABLE. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE OF DOCTOR I SHOULD SEE BUT THIS IS UNLIVEABLE. CAN YOU HELP ME?
Brief Answer:
Should consult ENT specialist...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history and feel sorry for the situation you are in.
Can you please upload a picture of the problematic gum area? That could help me assist you better.
Apart shingles, candida overgrowth should also be considered. Many of my patients wearing dentures have gone through the same problems. I usually advise to culture the mouth swab sample of the affected area to exclude candida overgrowth.
Based on the test results, specific anti-fungal therapy will be prescribed.
You can discuss it further with ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialist.
Hope it answered to your query! Let me know if you need further assistance!
