What Causes Pain In Testicles?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: I have been to primary care and urologist. I have been having pain in my testicles for the last few months off and on. Originally, I was given cipro which seemed to make the symptoms better and pain go away, but it has returned- tried doxycycline and another round of cipro. Pain is bad and getting worse. Had an ultrasound and ct scan which found nothing except some minorly swollen lymph nodes medial to my cecum. Just curious what I might can do to get some relief and where I can go from here to at least minimize the pain.

Brief Answer:
GET A DOPPLER DONE

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
First of all, swollen lymph nodes in abdomen may indicate some infective process going on, maybe acute or chronic. For control of infection, you have already taken enough antibiotics. But unfortunately the pain persists. Also, usg and ct scan has ruled out cystic lesions etc. What I feel is that it maybe a case of chronic infection or a case of varicocele. I would suggest you to get a Doppler study done for varicocele and an urine examination( routine, microbiological and culture). Also take painkillers like aceclofenac or ibuprofen to reduce the pain. Take antacids or proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole along with. You can consult your doctor for prescription of the above.
Get back to me or consult an urologist with the reports.

Hope I have answered your query.

The results of the ultrasound on my testicles indicated everything was normal, no varioceles, etc. I have had a urine test done several times that indicated slight blood in urine but nothing bacterial. Results here:
Test Name:     UA Dip no micro (IH) (CPT 81002)
Name          Value          Reference Range
Color          yellow
Clarity          clear
Glu          neg
Bili          neg
Ket          neg
Spec Gr          1.010
Blood          trace
Ph          7.0
Protein          neg
Uro          0.2
Nit          neg
Leuk          neg
My urologist is stumped as to what is causing the pain and honestly was wanting to refer me back to a gastroenterologist. I am just not sure whether to suck it up and give it time or what. Urologist had me on naproxen but will switch to ibuprofen and pantoprazole to see if that does anything. Every test has come up negative- yet still have pain, just not sure where to turn to.

Brief Answer:
CONTINUE MEDICATIONS

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Your urine report seems normal more or less except traces of blood.
This might indicate minor trauma. The pain should have subsided by this period. But however, I feel you should continue medication for another week before referral.

Wish you good health.
