What Causes Pain In Side Of Body While Sleeping?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Sep 2015
Question: I get a pain in my back or side area on the right hand side of by body when sleeping. It occurs when I turn onto my left hand side. The pain is just under my ribs, and usually happens during exertion. When sitting, I can push the right side of my torso just under the ribs area with my fingers, and feel pain. From what I know about the human anatomy, it seems like it is in the liver area.

Brief Answer:
Likely gastric discomfort. wait and see . symptomatic care till then

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and I understand your concern. Pain in the right side below ribs also called right hypochondrium worsened on lying down is likely a gastric cause and gastritis a likely issue.

Take some pepto and some baking soda powder with a cold glass of milk and wait and see.

If the pain persists get evaluated for other causes like gallbladder or pancrease or liver by a few baseline work up.

I am sure it will turn up some gastric discomfort and you will be prescribed with some symptomatic care and your symptoms will resolve.

Meanwhile diet and lifestyle modifications like eating small frequent meals, delaying timw between last meal and lying down, avoiding spices alcohol coffee and other stimulants etc, drinking more fluids and water and keeping head side of the bed elevated as precautions.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

Thanks for your answer. I have had the pain for some months so it is unlikely that it is a gastric upset. I am seeing a GP soon about another matter so I will see what he thinks. My guess is that it is probably a gallbladder or pancreas or liver issue. I don't have another question, but it has been an interesting exercise to go through.

Gastric and pancreas are also the possibility and I mentioned them in the differentials . Go for the work up and see what comes up and what your GP has to say.

I hope it helps. .
