What Causes Pain Along With Strange Sensations In Head?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Mar 2015
Question: Hello...I am having strange feelings in my head as well as pain for a couple months, in the past 2 weeks I have noticed that my forhead near hairline seems swollen and there are pronounced rigdes. The past 3 days I have seen a line of some sort running down the middle of the right side of my head and I can also feel this with my fingers. it seems as if the coronal suture may be swollen or separating. I have had alot of sinus problems recently and I have headaches and nausea and motion sickness but I thought it may just be sinusus but with my recent issues I am worried that it may be more than just sinus trouble. Can a brain tumor cause these types of problems?

Brief Answer:
Not a brain tumor, sinus or tension type headache.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I am sorry about the distress you are experiencing.

Let me assure you that those particular symptoms are not related to any brain, have no worry in that direction. No brain tumor causes those perceived changes in your hairline or on the right side of your head. The brain is confined within the skull and a tumor wouldn't have any perceivable signs on the scalp.

The one symptom which could require evaluation is headache. Headache can be a sign of neurological disease but it is more often related to other causes and in your case sinus issues seems to be more likely given the past history.

Another cause if sinus problems are excluded could be tension type headache. It is the most common type of headache experienced by the majority of people at some time during their life, often triggered or exacerbated by stress often accompanied by sensory perceptions on the scalp.
It is a primary headache (primary meaning no identifiable cause). Treatment consists in stress relaxation techniques and over the counter painkillers like Ibuprofen. If those don't work preventive treatment with Amitriptyline can be considered.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
