What Causes Numbness In Fingers, feet And Neck Cracking?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 May 2014
Question: I have increased vein visibility in my chest, both sides. I an currently having radiotherapy treatment to my breast after surgery for DCIS. I have an array of other symptoms like finger numbness in both hands, feet numbness, neck constantly cracking. Have spoken to my radio oncologist and had a chest x ray that came clear, a thoracic spine MRI that showed some herniated disks, but low around t10 and a brain MRI that was fully ok. The doctor just said it was due to the herniated disk and for me to see an orthopaedic doctor after I finish treatment, but I am not at easy with this. I also now have strange feelings in my face. I am a 43 year old female and a smoker. Thank you...

Brief Answer:
You need proper clinical exam & investigations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM

I have gone through your history and findings in detail.
I don't think numbness in feet and hand is due to herniated disc in thoracic spine around T10 vertebra.
It is important to know whether MRI of cervical spine has been done or not.It is also important to know associated pain, wasting of muscles etc.Disc herniation in cervical spine can give rise to finger numbness in both hands but it doesn't explain numbness in feet.Numbness in hand may also be due to wrist problem.

Numbness in feet and hand may also be due to vitamin deficiency(like vitamins E, B1, B6, B12, and niacin),diabetes mellitus, bacterial or viral infection, hypothyroidism etc. So,you need proper evaluation by a neurologist. You may need nerve conduction study.

If you take alcohol, you should stop it completely as alcohol causes neuropathy.

Proper treatment depend upon clinical findings and investigation reports.

Hope I have answered your question.
