What Causes Noise In Ear Along With Dizziness?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Feb 2016
Question: Hi! My name is XXXXXXX and I have a 79 yr. old father that for the last year and a half has had chronic clicking, and noises in his left ear, along with dizziness, only after a fall and hitting his left side of his face on the hearth of a fireplace. The left side of his head above his ear is very tender and painful. He has had 3 CT scans in 2015. Nothing is showing up and the many doctors he has seen don't know what to do for him.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for submitting your question. I'm sorry to hear your father suffered a fall & has these residual symptoms. I can understand the frustration you must both be feeling after having multiple tests & examinations performed without definitive results. Because of the nature of the fall & when it occurred, it may be possible that he has suffered damage to the temporal mandibular joint as well as to the inner ear which helps control balance. Sometimes the damage may be such that it is "subtle" by imaging detection (yet obvious in the symptoms it causes). Unfortunately it sounds like he may need an examination by someone who is well-specialized in head anatomy, such as an otolaryngologist (ENT) or even a oralmaxillo facial surgeon. In the meantime, it is important if your father can safely work on stability & balance exercises, ideally with assistance at first.

Thank you again for submitting your question.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga

Detailed Answer:
hello again.

We are not able to provide direct referrals for patience through this service.

I would recommend that you contact his primary care physician for recommendations regarding excellent local physicians. You might also contact the local university to see if they have any more specialized departments that deal with his particular concern.

Thank you again for sending the question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
