Question: My wife age 33 delivered a baby on 28th XXXXXXX by cesearian. Since then she is experiencing neck and head paid whenever she gets up. Her blood pressure is on an average 140/150 on the higher side and 80/90 on the lower side. She is taking Lababet 100 mg thrice a day. She is unable to get up from bed due to head and neck pain. The pain subsides when she lies down flat on bed. Doctors have been giving her paracetemol in saline but the pain is just not going. Its been 7 days today since her delivery and she is still in hospital. Finding it difficult to do breastfeeding as well since she has to lay down all the time. Why this pain and for how long will it go on like this?

Brief Answer:
Increase her fluid intake.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The headache and neck pain is likely to be due to spinal anaesthesia given to her during cesarean section. She can avoid taking a pillow and increase her fluid intake. More and more fluids will help her recover normally in next few days.
Ask her to lie on her side for some time before getting out of the bed. This headache is likely to reduce in a week.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

How many days more for her spinal headache recovery? Typically how long does this last? Aslo, She has streching and sharp pain next to naval (not at the actual c section stitches) when she turns around or tries to get up. Why this pain?

Brief Answer:
Can take 7-10 days for recovery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The spinal headache can take 7-10 days for recovery if fluid intake is not adequate. The pain next to navel can be due to internal stitches. This will gradually reduce in next 2-3 weeks.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thanks again. After going home what care should be taken for this spinal headache? It looks like its not going to go so early. Secondly, baby sleeps for 4 hours after every feed and didnt pass urine or motion for 6 to 8 hrs. What could be the reason and is this normal? Thx.

Brief Answer:
Avoid using a pillow.

Detailed Answer:
After going home it is better to avoid using a pillow for next 1-2 weeks. Avoid sitting for long intervals. Take plenty of fluids orally.
In summer season it is normal for the baby to not to pass urine for 6-8 hours. It is due to excessive skin loss. No need to worry.
