What Causes Missed Periods After Stopping Trinessa?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Hello, I have had my period for almost a month now. Last time this happened the blood tests came back saying I was not producing progesterone and not ovulating. All other levels were normal and ultrasound was clear as well. I was given Trinessa and it stopped the bleeding. I stopped taking Trinessa and did not have a period for about 5 months. It came back now and after 2 weeks of not going away I began to take Trinessa again. The first week it slowed the bleeding and stopped it completely for a day. But then it came back even heavier with lots of blood clots. Should I continue taking the Trinessa and wait for it to work again? Today starts the 3rd week of Trinessa so this is the final week. What do I do when these pils are done? Do I immediately start taking the next ones until the bleeding stops or do I skip the week? Please help.

Brief Answer:
The medicine needs to be continued

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

TriNessa (Norgestimate and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets) is being given probably with the assumption of polycystic ovarian disease. Unless you are ovulating, the progesterone level will not rise.

You should continue the pills. They are to taken for the full course of 28 days. You should get the periods after that. The next course should be begun again from the 2nd or 3rd day of the next cycle. Please do not wait for a week. Please be patient. The pills will be able to give you regular periods but will not make you ovulate. For pregnancy, you might need to talk to your treating doctor about prescribing ovulation inducers like clomiphene citrate.
