What Causes Lump On Right Side Of Neck Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I actually have 2 different questions. Both questions are to do with lumps but in different areas of my body. The first lump is on the right side of my neck. It is about the size of a marble (maybe a little bigger.) Its been there for several months. When I first discovered it it was while I had a sinus infection so I thought it was just an enlarged lymph node but it hasn't gone away. What do you think it could be? The second lump is about the size of a pea and is just outside my anus. It only becomes painful when I touch it a lot. I discovered it about a month ago. I'm thinking its maybe some type of hemmroid but I don't have any itching. Do you know what this lump could be? Thank you advance for any information.

Brief Answer:
Lymph node and hemorrhoid.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

1. Lump on the neck.
In this location, most probable is lymph node indeed. In some cases, once it get enlarged due to infection (sinus infection at your case) can stay in similar size for a long time. Lymph node is usually rounded, movable and painless. Its surface is smooth. If yours fits to this description, does not get larger since you have detected it and you do not smoke, no need to do anything with it. Just have it under observation. If you want to be 100% sure, ultrasound can be done to confirm it.
2. Anal lump.
Lump in this location is a hemorrhoid. Itching is not a symptom which always appears. You may have some trace of blood on stool surface with it. Hemorrhoid is soft and can be painful. It appears due to constipation or hard stool. Once it has appeared, wont disappear by itself. Medicines like suppositories can only make it a little smaller. But only surgical removal can make it disappear.
If its small and do not bother you, you can leave it alone. Just improve your diet (add fiber and probiotic) and avoid constipation.
If its large you can consult general surgeon and consider its removal.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

My hemorrhoid isn't getting a lot bigger but it is hurting a lot more. Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain besides surgery?
