Is It Safe To Give Culterelle And Florastor Together For Children?

My four year old daughter was diagnosed with c.diff on the 17th of september. It was because of taking three antibiotics. We have switched her probiotic from 2x day bio gaia which i think was doing a good job to culterelle at our doctors request. It was preferred choice. In my opinion I do not think it s doing a great job as her stools have become more runny. Then today she had a mucus and little blood only stool . After researching I found that Florastor probiotic, which has 250mg of saccharomyces boulardii lyo, is said to be the best at killing the c.diff. My question is can i give her both the culterelle (regular) and also the florastor (regular- 1 dose of 250mg? She is 4 years old and weighs 36/37lbs. thank you

Hi,

It is generally safe to give multiple probiotics together, but it is always best to consult with your daughter's doctor before adding any new supplements or making changes to her current regimen, especially since she has a medical condition. The doctor may also recommend specific dosages and schedules for the probiotics based on her age, weight, and overall health. Additionally, it is important to continue following any other treatment plans prescribed by the doctor for her C. diff infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
