What Causes Lightheadedness And Head Pressure Around The Sinus In A Alcoholic Person?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 May 2016
Question: I have lightheadedness, worse in the late morning, better in late afternoon. Not vertigo. When it is worse, I feel head pressure and pressure around my sinuses. I have had all the ear tests and they are negative. I have been on the paleo diet the last few months and have brought all my high labs down to normal. Am on Crestor 10 mugs a day--have been for a month. My 261 cholesterol last Sept is now 197, LDL 287, now 106. Have lost 10 lbs. My MD refuses to give the paleo diet any credit. But the lightheadedness impacts my life. I am not thinking "happy thoughts" when I walk is their conclusion. Have had this 2 plus years.

Brief Answer:
Need some more examinations

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

Lightheadedness in your age is a real problem, which is quite frequent with poor response to treatment.
If your ear tests are negative I would advise you to have an carotid ultrasound done, if it comes back normal, then X Rays of cervical part of spine is recommended. Blockage in carotid arteries or a. Vertebralis can cause such symptoms. The same can occur if there is a spine problem especially in te cervical part.
Also monitor your blood pressure and pulse.

i did have a carotid scan (outside of Kaiser) and the CIMT value was 0.962 "you have the carotoid arteries of an 80 year old woman (close, my word). I am stuck, Kaiser won't listen, and the Osteopath whom I saw outiside of Kaiser is very expensive. I do have a stiff neck, so I think the problem is more in what you wrote rather than it is all psychosomatic.

Also, I have normal blood pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

I think maybe you should try to see a vertebrologist, to evaluate your neck and prescribe some special exercises.
