What Causes Light Pink Spotting During 5 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Fri, 31 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, i just arrived from a long 19 hours international flight and when i arrived to the hotel i noticed a very light pink spotting( i am 5 weeks preg) then i took (duphaston 10 mg) to stop the bleeding or to stop a potential miscarriage! Is it ok? And can i stop it without asking my obgyn? I just took one pill? And does it have any bad side effects on the baby if i continue taking it during my trip? And could it harm my unborn fetus? I have a healthy 3 yr old and during my second trimester i had heavy bleeding for a month due to something in the placenta i cant recall what exactly.

Brief Answer:
You can continue the tablet.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I can understand your concerns.
Duphastan is a progesterone and helpful in proper growth of baby and support pregnancy.
It is similar to natural progesterone produce by placenta during pregnancy to give nutrition to fetus.
If bleeding is only in a form of spotting than there is no need to worry but if possible consult your treating doctor and continue duphastan, it will support pregnancy.
There is no ill effect on baby only some side effects like nausea, vomiting can occur.
If possible get your ultrasound scan done to see foetal well being.
Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more questions.
Good luck.

Thank you for or you prompt reply.
So you recommend me continuing taking the pills until i go back home( after 3weeks) even if there is no spotting anymore?
I got worried when i heard that duphaston is banned in the UK thats why i asked if its harmful for the unborn baby.
I take (2 pills a day) am i right?
Last Thing, since i am on vacation i can go out an walk and have fun? Or you recommend me to just rest?

Brief Answer:
Yes,you can continue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Sorry for the delay in my response.
Yes, you should continue the treatment whether spotting occur or not it will support the pregnancy.
It will not harm your unborn baby although it will support the pregnancy and helps baby to grow properly.( it is just like a natural progesterone secreted during pregnancy) .
Yes you should take the tablet twice daily.
If spotting is not there, you can take a walk but no exertion or physical activity.
Have fun and enjoy your vacation.
Good luck.
