What Causes Knot On Right Side Of Jawline In An Infant?
Question: My almost 3 month old has a swollen knot on her right side of her jawline in front of her ear. She hasn't been in pain at all today what could it be?

Painless knot like swelling in front of ear on one side at this age is most likely due to swelling of preauricular lymph node.
The enlargement of lymph node can occur due to any scalp infection of infection in the are drained by this lymph node(like upper respiratory tract,ear or conjunctiva).
Sometimes there may be transient swelling of lymph node without any evident signs and symptoms of infection.The swelling subsides over a period of time on its own or when the source of infection subsides.
This particular region(in front of ear) is also the anatomical site of parotid gland,but the parotid swelling is painful most of the time and the character is not exactly knot like.
So I would suggest you to get her clinically evaluated for the swelling and to check any signs of infection.
