I;m having trouble understanding WHY the doctor gave your wife Antibiotics for her knee pain. Did he say she has an infection? What testing did he do to prove that?

An ESR of 50 is a very nonspecific finding. It COULD be due to an infection. But it could also be caused by something as simple as sleeplessness.

So an ESR is not the reason the doc would have given the antibiotics.

I need more info to solve this little mystery.

1) When did the knee pain start?
2) Is it swollen?
3) When she moves the knee does it get worse?
4) Other than the ciplox, has she taken anything else?
5) Does she have any medical issues beyond what you have already mentioned?
6) Was an X-ray of the knee done?

Can you answer that for me?

Simultaneously, at this moment the only medications I can recommend are Over the counter pain killers like Brufen and Dolo. Those are available at any pharmacy.

Another helpful thing would be to invest in a knee support sock. It;s just a tight support that helps stabilize the knee and help it heal. Those two can be used whether there is an infection or not. So start her on that and get back to me with the answers and we will take it from there. Ok?

I see how you might imagine that the menstrual issues are related to the knee pain. There is some possibility that may be true, but the higher likelihood is that the knee pain is not really related.

Lets start with the uploaded reports...

1) Your blood work is essentially normal... you have highlited some out of range values, but they are very minor and do not really represent a major disease.

The MCV levels that are very slightly low can mean that your wife has border-line anemia. Most women in XXXXXXX do.. it's a dietary problem where they do not get enough Iron and Protein in their diet PLUS, Menstruation and pregnancy tend to push down the MCV a bit. Overall though, you can ignore it. It does not require any treatment. I would suggest she get another Hemogram in 6 months to recheck this.

The high ESR value can be due to many many issues as I said before, in isolation, its interpretation is useless. I really wish they didn't even DO this test routinely.

Now, to deal with this knee issue. stick with the pain killers I mentioned and a knee brace. See if the pain resolves with that over the next week. If the pain persists, then she will need an x-ray and a visit to an Ortho Doc.
