Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritis of the knee

Detailed Answer:
hi,

thanks for your question.

the commonest cause of knee pain at your age would be osteoarthritis of the knee joint. this is basically wear and tear either between the thigh bone and shin bone and/or the thigh bone and the knee cap. the symptoms from osteoarthritis do typically vary in severity depending on the amount of activity you have done and on the weather - cold damp days often make symptoms worse.

you are approximately 30lbs overweight and loosing this extra weight would certainly improve any symptoms emanating from you knee joint.

physiotherapy to maintain yor range of motion and strengthen the muscles around your knee will improve your symptoms.

an antiinflammatory medication can be of benefit of you have no contraindications to such a drug.

ultimately you should have your symptoms investigated with an X-ray of your knees which could confirm the diagnosis. if your pain and disability are bad enough and your X-rays confirm moderate to severe osteoarthritis then a knee replacement is a good operation to improve your quality of life.

I hope this answers your question.

best wishes
