What Causes Intermittent Sharp Pain In The Inner Ear?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: In the past I have had occasional sharp pain in my inner ear. Though intense, this pain has been seldom and of brief duration. Now a persistent pain has settled in my left ear. It is not so intense as earlier pain. What are the likely causes? What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Needs work up and management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. History of occasional sharp pain followed by a persistent one in left ear at age of 77 could point in many directions. It could be pain due to out ear causes like cerumen or wax deposition, middle ear infections or inner ear infections like labyrinthitis. Pain is manageable once the cause is sorted out. You should visit an otorhinolaryngologist and let them examine your ear, put an otoscope in there, assess the ear drums, hearing functions and vestibular functions and then proceed accordingly. I am sure slight supportive care with some pain killers will help with the pain.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
