What Causes Increased Bilirubin Level?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2014
Question: My daughter, 17 yrs of age, is suffering from Iron deficiency anaemia. Her Billirubin in Mar'14 was 2.3, with iron supplements it came down to 1.54 in May'14. She has not been taking iron supplements regularly which is a negligent behaviour. Now Bilirubin has risen to 5. Isn't it a cause for concern. Can she take Silybon 140mg to reduce B'rubin level. If so what is the dose? Or else please suggest proper medicine for which I will be grateful. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Cause of increased bilirubin shouldbe investigated

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM

I have thoroughly gone through your daughter's findings in detail.

Your daughter need proper clinical examination and investigations.
It is important to know exact level of direct and indirect bilirubin level. It is very important indicator which indicate about the reason for increased bilirubin.

She need few investigations like routine hemogram, complete liver function test, viral markers, ultrasound of abdomen, stool RE/ME and for occult blood.

Cause of increased bilirubin like hepatitis, hemolysis etc should be ruled out.Exact cause can only be ascertained by investigations.

Proper treatment depend upon findings.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.
