Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: I have hemorrhoids and loose stool. Also itching and pain. The itching is the worst just before I have to have a bowl movement. The swelling, pain and itching is okay after the bowl movement. I use essential oils to help with the swelling, which subsides, but after the bm it swells up again. Please help!

Brief Answer:
Anal fissure

Detailed Answer:
Hi thanks for using HCM.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms are suggestive of anal fissure or pinworm infection.
As haemorrhoids is a painless condition.
Anal fissure can form tracts in skin around anus resulting in Continous moisture which causes itching.

Anal fissure can be confirmed by physical examination. May need stool test to rule out pin worm infection.

Antihelminthic medication help to clear worms from bowel. Try to keep anal area dry as possible, after each bowel movement wash with gentle soap and dry.
Donot rub or use irritant
Take plenty of fluids and fiber rich diet
Stool softener in night time
Local application of anaesthetic cream for few days to relieve pain.

If your symptoms doesn't subside with these measures need to evaluate further for any tect problems.

Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further rated query.
Wish you a good health.

Regards

Thank you for your reply, doctor.
I think it is indeed anal fissure, that causes the constant itching that drives me crazy and its hard to not try and relieve it. Event hough I know it’s best to leave it alone and you also suggest not rub it, it is constantly draws my attention and urges me to find some kind of (temporary) relief. I don’t think it is pinworm, but I’m of course not 100% sure.

I do try to drink plenty of water. Usually I drink at least 1 liter a day (aside from other liquids) and I also take a fiber supplement on a daily basis. Re. your comment on a stool softener before bed, I have been taking stool softener until about a week ago, because of the loose stool. Do you suggest I take it anyway?

What do you suggest I do about the swollen hemorrhoids, which are very uncomfortable when sitting?
And regarding to the itching, do you think the anaestethic cream will help for this as well?

Can also please clarify what you mean by “any tect problems.”

Thank you again for your help!

Kind regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Needs evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for follow up query.

Swollen haemorrhoids needs to be examined, as treatment depends on stage of disease. intial stage can be managed with medications and swollen haemorrhoids needs to treated surgically, if blood vessels are coming out of anus.

'Tect', i, meant "tract" as in digestive tract. That was a Typo. Apologies

I usually recommend minimum 3 litres of water per day. Depens on your other fluid intake too.

As your symptoms not controlled with with changing stool consistency, infection of anal fissure needs to be ruled out and treatment accordingly.Wvaluation necessary to rule out rectal problems.

Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query.

Regards
