What Causes Heaviness In Head And Dizziness On Movement?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Dec 2014
Question: Lately I have been feeling a heaviness in my head and when I move in bed or turn over, it gets worse and sometimes the room starts to spin. I'm not in any pain in my head or ears, and I do not drink alcohol at all. However, I don't eat right. Could this be caused by lack of food or by dehydration?

Brief Answer:
BPPV or Cervical Vertigo

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

The symptoms described by you could be either related to Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) or Cervical Vertigo. Even though dehydration and electrolyte imbalance can cause dizziness, it will usually be of short span and not of spinning variety.

You will have to consult your doctor for a complete examination. BPPV and cervical vertigo has to be confirmed with tests such as Hallpike's maneuver and X-Ray cervical spine. If both the above tests comes out to be normal, then battery of investigations is required to find out the cause.

Meanwhile, avoid sudden neck movements. Drink plenty of water and consume food on time. Avoid coffee/tea/ smoking, if any.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.
