Question: My daughter XXXXXXX when she was 4 year old she inserted a watch batter (small button type), she didn't tellanyone and after sometime my wife noticed that she was in pain. She took XXXXXXX to doctor and they took the battery out of nose but they told that the battery had damaged her nose membrane.
Now she is 8 year old and she still has foul smell in her nose and if she is given paracetamol or ibuprofen then blood drops from her nose. Also she has itchy eyes and is very sensitive to light.

Could you please advise further course of action?

Brief Answer:
Go for nasal endoscopy and CT scan of the paranasal sinuses

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your query; and suggest you that first rule out the cause of the foul smell in the nose of your daughter.

Nasal endoscopy and CT scan of the paranasal sinuses of your daughter are absolutely necessary to examine the nasal mucosa, septal cartilage, turbinates, osteometal complex and sinuses to reach the near diagnosis.

Further management depends upon the finding of above mentioned investigation.

For your kind attention battery uses nickel oxide in its positive electrode, a cadmium compound in its negative electrode, and potassium hydroxide solution as its electrolyte. These batteries are fully laden with toxins like lithium and cadmium. Cadmium is a corrosive poison. It corrodes the cartilagenous portion of nasal septum and nasal mucosa.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
May be associated with nasal issue

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your follow up query; and it suggests that eye symptoms of your daughter may be related to the nasal issue. Better to sort out the nasal problem first; after that if eye symptoms persists then thinks about the diagnosis of eye allergy.

Thanks.
