default
Posted on Wed, 18 Nov 2015
Question: i have this movement in my upper right quadrant like a baby moving. its right under my breast bone. and if i strectch or move around or even raise my arms i feel it move. its been like this since monday. on sunday the day before i had severe cramping in the middle of my upper abdomen and in between my shoulders on my back. not even a comfortable position relieved it. i went to the dr and they sent me for labs and a ct scan. i am waiting on results but in the meantime what should i do? people have suggest that it may be worms or parasites. i also have off and on burning in my chest. but no pain anywhere. no nausea nor diarrhea. just unexplained movements through out the day with bloatness and some mild chest pain every now and then.

Brief Answer:
Need investigations to confirm the diagnosis, but here are a few suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. As you must have understood by now, a concrete diagnosis is not possible without investigations like a CT scan, upper GI endoscopy, etc; but I shall surely help within my best capabilities.

The feeling of movements that you have described and mentioned in the upper right quadrant is most probably a spasm either due to the abdominal muscles or even possibly the gall bladder (as I have seen with a few other patients). But the main thing we need to look for or rather hope for is a normal CT abdomen report.

If the report is normal, this is just a normal spasm. But with the pain that you have mentioned, I doubt the report would be normal, and we should be able to find more with either just the CT scan or possibly even an endoscopy also.

Worms or parasites are a possibility, but it comes along with other symptoms like diarrhoea, constipation, at times you can even see the worms or their eggs in the stool. If parasites or worms are being suspected, then a stool sample should be provided for confirmation/ruling it out.

In the meantime, all you can do is be careful with what you eat, here are a few suggestions:

+Avoid spicy food
+Avoid fried food
+Avoid fatty food
+Avoid oily food
+Drink plenty of water
+Avoid alcohol
+Avoid smoking
+Avoid carbonated drinks
+Take an antacid 15 minutes before meals (e.g. ranitidine)

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
