What Causes Fluid Buildup In The Middle Ear?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: Hi, I have had fluid in my right ear since January. It started in both ears and occurred during a vacation that involved flying. I had vertigo which cleared up the first week after the trip. My doctor said to take sudafed to help with the fluid. My left ear has since improved. My right ear is still full of fluid. I have had ringing in the ear and yesterday, during yoga, had vertigo. I have had nausea which I thought was unrelated. Now I'm not certain. I've also had sinus infections and a viral respiratory infection during this time. I figured this might have delayed the ear healing.

Can the nausea be related to the ear issues? And can nausea be present without vertigo? And is three months a normal time frame for the ear fluid to still be present? Im starting to get concerned. Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
The fluid in the ear after flying is a common thing.
It can take 2 to 3 weeks to be resolved.
If it does not dry up, tympanotomy can be required for that.
Take an oral decongestants and nasal decongestant drops.
Take steam inhalation and chew a gum that will also help decongest the eustachian tube and dry up the ear.
Nausea can also occur due to this. For this take tablet stemetil twice daily.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available only on prescription.
Don't worry it can take sometime to heal.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks and regards
