Brief Answer:
You might have an infection starting

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for using Healthcare Magic. Heat, pain, and swelling often occur with infection. The infected area is often inflamed and red as well. If you have all 4 of these findings, then I would say almost certainly you have an infection and should get it looked at right away. Infection in a finger could ultimately cause a lot of damage if not treated as it is mostly made of bones, tendons, joints, and connective tissue- damage to these can problems with moving the finger.

You don't say what part of your finger is swollen and warm. You could also have some arthritis if it is around one of the joints. Tendinitis may also cause swelling and soreness. This can occur with repetitive motions and not necessarily a result of an acute injury.

Without examining it, I can't say what it is exactly, but those would be the main possibilities. If it is getting worse or has the 4 elements of infection I mentioned earlier, then you should get it looked at so a definite diagnosis can be made.

Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
