Brief Answer:
Need some more information..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Thanks for asking to healthcaremagic..

I have read your query and understood the concern.

I would like you to answer few relevant questions in this regard..

1) Since when do you suffer from this ?

2) Any unusual foul smells from your mouth ?

3) Do you have swallowing difficulty ? If yes, is it progressing since you got the first time ?

4) Can you feel objectively any lump or enlarged nodes in your neck region ?

5) Any other associated symptoms other than feeling a lump in throat ?

With the limited information,my opinion would be that this is unlikely to be a hiatal hernia as this condition is associated with symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) like nausea, cough, heart burn etc which you didn't mention..

Awaiting your reply..

Regards

My wife XXXXXXX had an operation on her back a month ago. This was to repair a disc that was closing and causing pain on her right side from the waist down. She has been taking Oxycodone for the pain. She went to a GI doctor about the swallowing problem. The GI doctor told her that she would have to wait until she stopped taking the Oxycodone. She has a sensation when she eats food that there is an obstruction in her throat, Even when she swallows saliva. 1) one month. 2) No foul smells. 3) She can swallow but it feels difficult, as if she has a golf ball in her throat. 4) There are no lumps or nodules on her neck. 5) No other associated symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Probably related to Oxycodone...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Thank you for following up with the information i required..

I have gone through it carefully...

The feeling of large lump in her throat and swallowing difficulty is likely to be related to the intake of oxycodone,an opioid pain killer...

Altered perception and thus abnormality in thinking are known adverse effects of opioids(oxycodone). These side effects may occur in some individuals who are susceptible.

So to conclude, the feeling of lump in her throat --->Most likely related to oxycodone course. You can consult with her spine surgeon/palliative care specialist to consider dose adjustment/tapering based on her postoperative clinical status..

Gastrointestinal evaluation may be considered after cessation of opioid course if feeling of lump/swallowing difficulty still prevail at that point..

Hope this answers your query. If any further concerns, happy to answer you.If you are satisfied with my answer, please give your feedback..

Regards
