Brief Answer:
Not serious condition and most people are treated with medicine or surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Your fathers report shows an enlarged prostate gland. It is showing grade II enlargement. This can be treated by medicines or surgery. Please consult the urologist with the report to get a prescription for medicines to treat benign enlargement of prostate gland. It is not a serious problem.

2. Prostate gland is found at the base of urinary bladder and is known to enlarge in elderly age group. It is enlarged in 10 percent males above 60 years age and in 80 percent males above 80 years age.

3. When the prostate enlargement is moderate to severe and causing urinary frequency and retention of urine then surgery is recommended. It is seen from the report that post void urine is 18 cc and this is acceptable as normal.

4. If there is no severe urinary symptoms then treatment with medicines can show good response. Benign enlargement of prostate is a part of aging but if it causes any urinary obstruction and difficulty then surgery is best method of treatment.

5. It will be better if he also gets serum PSA blood test done.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
